The FSB’s 9 October 2025 report identifies a gap between progress on international policy and the experience of people sending money. Wholesale payments and remittances became faster, but average costs remained persistent and transparency data was incomplete. Satisfactory global improvement by the original 2027 timetable looked unlikely.
Compare the whole payment
Four questions make a useful comparison: how much the recipient receives, when the money becomes usable, who can access the service, and what the sender knows before paying. Fast message delivery answers only part of that test.
For example, two services may both promise instant sending. One may make funds immediately available; the other may only dispatch an instruction. Compare the same endpoint before comparing fees, exchange rates and intermediary deductions.
What to follow next
The roadmap now places greater emphasis on implementation and monitoring. Ask which corridor improved, which users benefited and whether actual cost and availability data supports the announcement.
Continue with Nexus and ISO 20022 data harmonisation.
Compare total cost on consistent terms
A lower explicit fee can coexist with costs in the exchange rate or intermediary deductions. Compare the same amount, currencies and timing, including funds ultimately usable by the recipient.
Access also needs a defined user and purpose. A corridor supporting personal remittances may not support trade payments, and a participating bank may offer different conditions by account type.
These distinctions explain part of the gap between policy milestones and customer outcomes. Standards or operating-hour improvements still pass through products and procedures before reaching users. The March 2026 implementation phase continues this question of observable results.
